        WP 02 Passage plan

        Where she goes.

Out of the Hamble and across to the Island. A few of the places she’s made for — beaches, a creek, lunch at anchor. Scenes created from photos of our boat.

        1. Departure

          Hamble River

Home is Eastlands Boatyard, Swanwick. She lives ashore on her trailer; the yard launches her to the holding pontoon when someone’s going out, and she stays there while the bookings run.

Keypad access out of hours and at weekends

        2. WP 02·1

          Priory Bay

A long sandy beach on the Island’s north-east corner, under the National Trust’s Priory Woods. Faces east, towards Selsey Bill.

        3. WP 02·2

          Seaview

A seafront village on the Island’s north-east coast, next along from Priory Bay. Take it slowly past the front.

        4. WP 02·3

          Newtown Creek

A National Trust nature reserve on the north-west of the Island. Tidal creek, salt marsh, moorings and not much else. That’s the point.

        5. WP 02·4

          The Hut, Colwell Bay

Anchor off the beach, north of the big white buoys, and The Hut’s water taxi comes out to collect you for lunch.

        WP 03 The sums

        How co-ownership works.

You own a fifth of the boat outright. The running costs are shared, and the only thing you pay per outing is getting her in and out of the water — split with whoever else is using her that stretch.

        1. Your share

          1/5

One of five equal shares. Four for new owners; the founding owner keeps the fifth.

        2. Buy-in, once

          £3,500

Paid by bank transfer when you join.

        3. Running costs, a year

          £900

Paid once a year, in advance. Covers storage at Eastlands, insurance and servicing. No fee paid, no booking.

        4. Launch + recovery

          £57.96

Paid per use through the site, by card, and split equally between the owners using her that stretch.

        Who’s out that stretch?

Once she’s launched she can sit on the pontoon between bookings at no extra cost, so everyone booked while she’s in shares the one launch and recovery. If someone joins after you’ve paid, you’re refunded down to the new equal share automatically. Cancelling never makes anyone else pay more.

        Owners using her

Out alone: £57.96 for the launch and recovery.

        Keeping the booking fair

Five owners, one boat, and summer weekends are finite. The rules are enforced by the booking system, not by whoever’s quickest on the group chat.

        The practical bit

        • Where she lives. Eastlands Boatyard, Coal Park Lane, Swanwick, on the Hamble River. Stored on her own trailer.
        • Getting in. There’s a keypad for access out of hours and at weekends.
        • Launching. Book on the site and the launch is arranged with the yard for you. She’s left tied to the pontoon, ready.
        • Fuel. Each owner will have their own portable tank. Bring yours, plug it in.
        • Afterwards. A short checklist before you go and a logbook entry when you’re back — engine hours, fuel, anything that needs looking at.

WP 04 Before you cast off

        What you’ll need.

        1. 01

          RYA Powerboat Level 2

Every owner holds it. No exceptions.

        2. 02

          Don’t have it yet?

A group PB2 course is being organised for new owners. Details once it’s fixed — say so on the form and we’ll keep you posted.

        3. 03

          A walk-round on the boat

A short induction on the boat before your first booking, so you know her ways.

        4. 04

          This year’s fee, paid

The £900 goes in once a year, in advance. The booking calendar opens when it’s in.

        WP 05 Crew list

        The five shares.

        One taken, four open.

        WP 06 Notices to mariners

        Fair questions.

        Is this a boat club?

No. This isn’t hire or charter — you’d own a fifth of the boat. Five people own her together, share the running costs, and use her themselves.

What does the £900 a year cover?

The running costs: storage at Eastlands, insurance and servicing. It’s paid once a year in advance, and you can’t book until it’s in. Launch and recovery is separate, paid when you use her. The tracker and this website are paid for by the founding owner, not out of the fee.

        How does booking stay fair?

Morning, afternoon or full-day sessions. You can hold up to two weekday sessions and one weekend or bank-holiday session at a time, so nobody can sit on the whole summer. Once one’s been used, book another. Everyone gets one wild card a year to book past the limit. Inside 48 hours the limits lift — if she’s free, go. Bookings open 90 days ahead, and three days in a row is the longest single trip.

How is the launch cost split?

Launch plus recovery at Eastlands comes to £57.96. When you book, if she isn’t already due in the water, your booking starts a new stretch afloat and you pay the lot. Anyone who books while she’s in — or within 7 days of the last booking, before she comes out — joins that stretch, and the cost is split equally between everyone in it. Earlier payers get refunded down to the new share automatically.

If you cancel, what you paid stays with the stretch, so nobody else’s bill goes up. If someone joins later you’re first in line for the refund. If everyone cancels before she’s launched, everyone gets their money back.

        What if I want out?

Your share is sold at valuation, and the other owners get first refusal before it goes to anyone else.

        Who can take her out?

Owners, each holding RYA Powerboat Level 2, after an induction on the boat. She’s never offered to anyone who isn’t an owner.

How do I pay for things?

The buy-in and the annual fee go by bank transfer. Launch and recovery is paid by card through the owners’ site when you book.
